skyscraper scarf give away!

Monday, 27 February 2012

It's about time we did another give away, I used to do them once a moth, what happened?!
it's still a little cold, cold enough to wear a nice scarf from time to time I think.
So to win your very own sky scraper can you write in a very short poem with the word 'skyscraper' in it.
(We make you work for your prize) can just be a couple of lines.
We'll give one of these lovely long lambswool scarves to two winners.
thank you!!

Craft council Kids knit event

Saturday, 25 February 2012

Here are some pics from the first Cinema knit-along with Craft Club, I really enjoyed it! And so did Ellen who picked up finger knitting so quickly and made a very long and neat scarf with her nimble little fingers!
The film ( by crush) was fantastic , telling the story of life through knit. Highlight of course was an appearance from our very own peeping Tom and peanut!
Everyone got a lovely box of wool to start their Knitters and some people got on so well tat their knitting grew over their seats and the one in front!
A really great way to encourage kids to be creative and make things with their own hands. Well done Jess and Katie from Craft club ! Thanks for a fab morning x check their website for more events near you!

Must go to Shrigley show

There seems to be loads of great shows in London at the moment! I went to the David Shrigley show at the Hayward gallery. I laughed my way round it!
There'd lots and lots of sculptural work that I hadn't seen before. A long line of boots naively made just like the way he draws, I loved them!
Not allowed to take photos but I sneaked a few to show you.
Please go if your in London- or need a new pair of oddly shaped ceramic boots!

Waste Not- art show at Barbican

Wednesday, 22 February 2012

I stumbled across an exhibition at the weekend, which I found quite moving.  A Chinese Artist called Song Dong has filled the Curve gallery in the Barbican with thousands of his mothers possessions.
His father died quite suddenly and his mother slipped into a deep depression, so he decided to dedicate his art work to helping her deal with her grief and get her out of her depression.
Here are a few snaps I took of the show, even the most mundane objects look so beautiful set out in multiples. From a family of hoarders myself I could sort of relate to it!
Textile students would like this show I think. excuse my bad phone photos.

Cushion workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Well it's the last week of my show endangered species at YSP, I'm quite sad it's all over. It's been fantastic and I've met so many lovely people.
Highlights for me include cat face victoria sponges, parmesan clouds, an opening speech by Freddie Robins, a lively lecture at Huddersfield, a tour round the mill that spins the yarn that we knit everything with, and most recently a cushion making workshop!
Here are some pics of what people made. Well done girls!
And thank you Amanda for all your help!
