Friendly Forest for St Georges Hospital Children's Emergency Department.

Friday 21 December 2012

As 2012 comes to a close I wanted to show you a very special project that we managed to fit in this year.  I was asked to design a wall mural for the corridor of the Children's Emergency Department of St Georges Hospital, London.
The work had to be uplifting for kids of all ages with things going on at lots of different height levels.   The corridor changes in width, and leads from the reception to different parts of the hospital.
I thought it would be nice if the wall was lined with curious looking trees. Within the trees various creatures live, a smiling cat, a family of hand drawn koalas, a lime green snail and even a bear in boots!
Here are some pictures of the install, the work was made from sticky wall vinyl by Bradford based company new vision - www.new-vision.co.uk

Line of ants who have made their home along the bumper rail!
Is that cyril squirrel fox?
The Lion tree

Many Thanks to Belinda Harward, who is the Arts Director at St Georges and is in charge of promoting well being. Belinda commissioned the corridor. I hope it brings a smile to a few of the faces that pass through the corridor in often stressful circumstances.

The miniature world of Sabine Timm

Monday 10 December 2012

I don't know much about Sabine Timm, I would love to find out about her, she makes these beautiful little sets with dolls furniture, nature, paper, etc. there's something about them that I find enchanting. Finding discarded objects, bringing them to life by giving them a personality, she's a talented lady.
I love her sense of colour. I don't think she has a web site so here are a few of my favourites. Also you can see more on here: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/sabine-timm

Blow your own Bauble at Michael Ruh's Glass Studio

Tuesday 20 November 2012

A while back we all went Glass Blowing with Michael Ruh. Michael makes his own amazing work, vases, jars, bowls etc of which I've always been a big fan.  My first studio was next door to Michael and Natascha, in West Norwood.
I used to watch them in amazement at how they make a glass  by turning a molten burning hot blob of material skilfully into something that is beautiful and fragile and pure.

Michel and Natascha hold Glass blowing workshops in December so you can have a go at blowing your own Christmas Bauble. I'd thoroughly recommend it, it's great fun and the whole process is mind blowing to me!
Here's some pics of us:

Michael showing us how they make optic fibres demonstrating how bendy and stretchy glass is.

Look at what we made!  find out more here: www.michaelruh.com
