  2. My ideal holiday location it's Kailua-Kona, hawaii. I used to live there back in the 90's, that's where I met my husband and the last time we were able to enjoy that island was almost 5 years ago. My sister and her family lives there, so we always have free accomodation and food! Which it's a big plus :) We dream of coming back, it is a very special place for us…but being 4 in our family it got a bit expensive now! Hopefully one day...

You can drive for miles without any distractions and see the most incredible landscape along the way. Every single holiday I want to take is now back to this beautiful country. I can't wait to introduce my new baby son to this wonderful place.

  10. My favourite holiday destination would have to be camping in France. Lots of lovely food and wine and great to be outdoors. This year we have the pleasure of taking our 8 month old son. We've upgraded to a bigger tent, but really excited about all living a more simple life for 2 weeks. A brand new Scandi cushion may even turn us into Glampers! x x x

  11. My very favorite holiday destination by far is Zakynthos. My husband's Greek family is from there, so for this Northern European girl it feels both like the best of holidays and like a cozy home all rolled into one. I love its blueest of blue seas, our tiny local beach, delicious food (fried cheese: YUM) and at the end of the day dreaming summer dreams in my own bed!

    1. I agree! (Kim must be my sister :) as there aren't many European girls with Greek husbands on Zakynthos who love fried cheese)

  12. This summer I'm spending my holiday in Austria, my home country. There are still so many places that I haven't visited and that are worth seeing. It's a shame that I haven't explored more of my own home country! This should really change.

  26. You know what? I have STAYCATIONS! I live in one of the most desirable vacations destinations of the world, so everyday seems like a vacation. I live in Southern California on the beach or known as Los Angeles to most. I feel very lucky to live here and have STAYCATIONS! I walk along the beach, breath in the sea air, discover all kinds of sea life like sand pipers and rooted up sea weed. Sometimes, I watch the surfers and sometimes, I play frisbee. Just awesome!

  29. My favourite summer holiday location would have to be my home sweet home in the beautiful countryside of Southern Ireland. I have been living and working in Berlin for a year now and when I think of the fresh air, the sea, beautiful mountainous scenery and fields that go on for miles nothing can beat that. It's amazing how much you can miss a place when you're far away from it and knee deep in Berlin snow :)! I love going home, although it is a rarity, as it's the one place I can go to where I know that it's going to be beautiful and my family and friends are there :)

  36. So many different places it's impossible to choose. The best holidays are in the tent waking up to the orange yellow glow of it's fabric and crawling out to another day of adventure!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Since I don't live in my home country, going home to the USA, specifically Maryland with the Chesapeake Bay nearby and the Atlantic ocean a short drive away, those very hot summers with family are the best vacations.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Riviera Maya in Mexico for summer! amazing blue shades in the sea, diving, sun, food...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm opting for a UK based holiday, I'd like to pitch up my tent on a summers evening in St David's South Wales and take a cliff top walk along the coastal path. Seagulls soaring and waves crashing! (If it's another rainy summer I wouldn't say no to sipping a cocktail from a coconut in Thailand though!)

  40. Tricky, it would still have to be Paris. A girlfriend took me there about 6 years ago for my Christmas present. It was perfect, we were newly dating, maybe 4 or 5 months. The sun shon, we hired bikes out for the day and tracked down locations from Amelie. We actually danced in the street on one occasion after a night out. The kind of things that happens in a Hepburn movie. It was tragic to return home. 6 years later and the girlfriend is now my fiancée and have a 5 week old baby. That 4 days in Paris will always be 4 of the best.

  41. Because I am perpetually a pauper, my favourite summer holiday spot these days is my room/home. Inspired by Xavier de Maistre's Voyage around my room, each time I feel depressed and stuck in my humble abode, I explore my surroundings and let my mind wander. My imagination runs, flies & leaps. You marvel at boxes you haven't opened in years, a tin full of odd bits and bobs, an old postcard address to no one or an oddly shapped rock. Such mystery and fascination, right in your own backyard. You learn to make do and take advantage of what you have when you have nothing much, right. :)

  42. I used to spend all of my summers on a forested island in a little lake when I was growing up in Canada. Most of my waking hours were spent in the water. My mother would bring lunch to the end of the dock where she read books in the day and I would reach my arm up from the lake and take fruit or crackers to hold above the water and eat while I swam. And when not in the lake I was deep in the woods, wandering along old paths, pushing through thick undergrowth, or abruptly finding the lake shimmering through the trees ahead of me. We stayed in a sort of shack where the walls didn't quite line up at the corners, so you could look out and see the sky, and raccoons sometimes came inside to look for food, but I felt marvelously free.

I have travelled a lot since then, and I have honestly never found a place I didn't like. But that seems maybe more like adventuring than holidaying though... I think that holidaying is more about coming to a place where your mind can wander and where the sort of exploring that Liarnie's comment mentions can happen. I am sure this could be in any place, though I suppose ideally it would be somewhere natural and beautiful.

  46. My favourite holiday spot is Camber Sands in Rye. Every weekend of my childhood in kent, if the sun was shining we were packing up the car and heading for the sand dunes. Many memories of fighting for a turn of the bucket and spade with my two sisters, as well spending hours on the trampolines on the beach, wish I was there now!
