October Giveaway + Knitwear Launch

Monday, 6 October 2014

Happy October everyone!

As you know, we are counting down the days until out first ever womens knitwear launch in just over a week! Here's a little background aout the collection of jumpers and how the womens knitwear collection came about...

'Jumpers and Ice Cream' is a family of five exquisitely soft woolly jumpers inspired by rainy Sundays, mittened bike rides to the circus, and other instances in which unlikely pairings yield magical results. The collection features an array of vibrant colours and playful geometric patterns that feel simultaneously fresh and nostalgic.

With her first collection of knitwear, Donna set out to create wearable garments with the same sense of humour and off-beat charm found in her range of home accessories, the appeal of Donna's work having always been their ability to brighten up the every day.

While designing the collection, Donna envisioned the people who would wear the pieces and the lives they lead:

"I imagined the jumpers on all kinds of interesting people and what they would be doing while wearing them - an abstract artist picking out aubergines at the farmers market, a circus performer taking her tea break, or an accountant wanting to wear something different on the weekend.

"It was important to me that the jumpers felt familiar and friendly, but could also be worn to make a statement. The jumpers are for anyone who wants to wear something special, cosy, colourful, and fun."

The collection will be available exclusively on our website, www.donnawilson.com and at Couverture & The Garbstore in London, the very first shop to stock Donna's knitted dolls eleven years ago.

"I still remember taking around my first dolls to them when I was still studying at the Royal College of Art. I still think of Couverture as one of the first tastemakers; back then there weren't many curated lifestyle concept stores around and working with them really was the beginning of my business. Launching my first collection of women's knitwear with Couverture feels like such a natural thing, like the journey's come full circle."

A nod to Donna's Scottish roots, and in keeping with the studio's commitment to local manufacturing, each jumper is made in Scotland. All the garments are fully fashioned out of 100% lambswool.

Join us for the knitwear launch party on Tuesday 14th October, 4-8pm at Couverture! We will be screening our specially commissioned film by Oliver's Island. Enjoy a whisky tipple and live Scottish music by fiddler Lewis Murray while you browse the collection.

And you probably have guessed by now that autumn is one of our favourite seasons at Donna Wilson and it is finally in full swing now in London. To commemorate this lovely season we would like to give away two of our NEW Fox and Balloons Mini Tray.

For your chance to win one of the two mini trays we're giving away, we would like you to tell us what you think our next creature should be, what you would name it, and what its personality traits would be! Please submit your ideas as a comment on this blog or in an email to press@donnawilson.com. At the end of the month we'll select two lucky winners! And maybe your creature will even be added to our collection!

P.S. The winner of our September giveaway is Loki Gillings!

  3. I'm surprised you haven't had a hedgehog join your menagerie yet. (I think Henry would get along very well with Cyril Squirrel-fox!) Henry may be a little shy but not at all prickly, at least when he's had his saucer of milk and is left alone with his books.

  4. I would love to see an Octopus, named Ella. Ella has big red lips, wears flowers on its head and is shoes addicted. She is a little bit too curious, sometimes stubborn but always funny and ready for new adventures with its friends :)
